Mary-Hannah Klontz is the newly appointed Director of the Choralis Youth Chorus program and will direct Cantus Primo beginning in the Fall of 2009. In addition to her work with these groups, Mrs. Klontz is the Director of the Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg and the Arts Education Specialist of the Arlington Virginia Public Schools where she has taught vocal music at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She was recently named "Music Teacher of the Year" by the Opera Guild of Northern Virginia. Ensembles under her direction have received the highest accolades and been invited to perform at the Virginia Music Educators Conference, the White House, the National Cathedral and the Millennium Stage of the Kennedy Center. She is active as a soloist and chorister, having performed with the Master Chorale of Washington Chamber Singers at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Heinz Hall and Riverside Church.
Mrs. Klontz received a Master of Music in French Horn performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and a Bachelor of Music Education in French Horn, Piano and Voice from the University of Akron, Ohio. Mary-Hannah is a Creative Motion Master Teacher, and serves on the faculty of the Windswept Summer Music Workshop held annually at William Jewell College. Mrs. Klontz' musical career began as a French Hornist in various orchestras, including the Rochester Philharmonic, Canton Philharmonic, Lexington Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony and Israel Sinfoniettia. Although she still enjoys playing, her passion is for choral conducting. She also enjoys composing and has recently published one of her compositions, Point Me to the Stars, with Hal Leonard as part of the Henry Leck Choral Artistry Series. She resides in Arlington with her husband, Paul Klontz, a member of the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets and their daughters, McKenna and Kyra.
