FROM THE CONDUCTOR'S CHAIR

Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 9th Choralis season. This season has numerous special musical offerings, beginning with two concerts that were postponed from last season as a result of my rotator cuff surgery. I am so thrilled that I will have the chance to share this wonderful music with you and encourage you to attend both concerts -
Ēchos “Something Old, Something New” in September and Choralis “German Romantics” in October.

As always, we will celebrate the holidays in our traditional style with the Classical Brass Quintet and the McLean High School Madrigals. As many of you know, educational outreach is a major part of the Choralis mission and it means a great deal to me personally. I am very proud to announce that we will broaden our educational outreach program this season through the addition of four youth choirs! The youth will begin their season at Strathmore, performing Carmina Burana with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale and will be featured in a special pre-concert performance at the December 13 “Classic Brass Christmas” concert.

We will close the season with perhaps the most important (and certainly one of the most riveting) choral works ever written — J. S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor. I am so thrilled that the students from the 2009 Choralis Summer Choral Festival will have the opportunity to learn this masterwork, as it will truly be a life-changing experience. Please be sure to attend the discussion with J. Reilly Lewis and me to further enhance your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of this monumental piece of musical literature. I hope to see you at all of the concerts this season and look forward to greeting you there.
